An enigmatic new species of Ilybiosoma Crotch, 1873, belonging to the I. discicollis group sensu Nilsson (2000), is described from Zhangmu on the border between Nepal and Tibet Autonomous Region. It is the first record of the genus for China. Ilybiosoma yeti n.sp. was collected at an altitude of 4000 m and is related to Ilybiosoma kermanensis (Balfour-Browne, 1939) from Kerman, Iran, and to I. discicollis (Ancey, 1882) from the highlands of Ethiopia. From both it can be easily separated by its strongly cordiform pronotum, the extremely flat body, and the form of the median lobe of aedeagus and parameres. A key to the species of the I. discicollis group, a discussion of their phylogenetic relationships, and notes on the possible function of various characters are given.
