Contents: The crossreactivity profile of a polyclonal antiserum raised against enprostil, a prostaglandin analog consisting of four stereoisomers, was determined for each of the component isomers. The studies reported here were prompted by the observation of interference in the RIA that was far greater than that expected simply on the basis of crossreactivity determined by standard methods. The profiles seen were consistent with the presence of two antibodies that had different affinities for the different component isomers and that were present at different concentrations in the antiserum. The complex behavior seen with antiserum raised against enprostil was not observed with antiserum raised against a single, pure component of enprostil. The implications of these findings on the analysis of biological samples for drugs that are administered as isomeric mixtures are discussed.
