In the present study, organic fertilizers, represented by slurry manure and meat bone meal, used on ecologically grown winter wheat were compared with urea in field experiments with the purpose of increasing the protein content. There were no consistent differences in protein content and yield level between the treatments with organic fertilizers and the urea treatments. The protein content was as high after a single early N application as after a split application. In treatments with meat bone meal, plant growth seemed to be slower during the early growing phase compared with the other treatments. The endogenic mould infection and content of heavy metals indicated that the grain from all fertilizer treatments was of good food-grade quality. |
