This study critically reflects and reports on a compulsory course component in Alternative Approaches to Corporate Finance on an Accounting and Financial Management undergraduate degree at the University of Zed. The paper is concerned to make out the case for such a course and more generally aims to stimulate debate about what is being taught in the name of accounting and finance education and how a teaching with genuine pedagogical value should be developed. Included in the paper is an analysis of a questionnaire which was completed by students attending the course. The questionnaire was used as a pedagogic device at the close of the course component to encourage students to reflect upon their experience and here it provides a mechanism to further communicate to the reader the character of the component and some of the issues it addressed. |
