The coastal exposures of country rocks to the east of the Cretaceous Mt Dromedary igneous complex are multiply deformed, regionally metamorphosed (high T/low P) Ordovician spotted schists rather than contact hornfelses. They are also intruded by granitic dykes as well as the Mt Dromedary syenite dykes. This small metamorphic and dyke complex is related to an earlier, probably Devonian event, rather than Cretaceous igneous activity. This discovery at the supposed Palaeozoic subduction-accretion position represents the youngest and easternmost occurrence of high-grade metamorphic rocks in the Lachlan Fold Belt. |
