The terminology and stratigraphic nomenclature of proven and possible glaciogenic sediments

Title: The terminology and stratigraphic nomenclature of proven and possible glaciogenic sediments
Author: Jago, J. B.
Appeared in: Australian journal of earth sciences
Paging: Volume 21 (1974) nr. 4 pages 471-474
Year: 1974
Contents: The terminology of proven and possible glaciogenic sediments is briefly reviewed. It is suggested that such terms as mixtite, diamictite, tilloid, pseudotillite, and others should not be used in describing tillite-like sediments. Terms such as breccia and conglomerate seem more appropriate. It is suggested that the genetic term tillite should not be used in formal stratigraphic nomenclature. The non-genetic terms breccia, conglomerate and formation are preferred for use in formal stratigraphic nomenclature.
