Fine spines are reported for the first time on a possible topotype of Spirifer darwini Morris, the type species of Notospirifer Harrington. Short elongated grooves and ridges in quincunx are also present as in Martiniopsis, Ambikella, and Tomiopsis. Other specimens from the same locality, including some referred to S. darwini by Dana (1849), may belong to another species of Notospirifer, also with spines and grooves. |
