Do parenting programs work? a case study

Titel: Do parenting programs work? a case study
Auteur: Gleed, Susan
Verschenen in: Australian social work
Paginering: Jaargang 51 (1998) nr. 1 pagina's 47-53
Jaar: 1998-03-01
Inhoud: This paper presents the findings of an evaluation of a parenting program conducted by a non government community service organisation in Darwin. The program is part of the Family Skills Training Program which is an initiative of the Commonwealth Attorney General's Department. It is an eclectic parenting program targeting 'at risk' families and being conducted around Australia by welfare and community agencies. The Attorney General's Department funds the services to conduct the program in their area or locality. Results of the evaluation indicate that a majority of parents benefited from the program and enjoyed the experience. Participants' expectations of the program and their personal goals were met and they also gained some unanticipated advantages. Parents enjoyed the companionship and the opportunity of sharing experiences with other parents. An increase in confidence was also noted as a positive outcome for participants.
