Parental grieving of childhood disability is an experience which is complex, long-lasting and fluctuating in nature. A range of social and cultural factors combine to impact on the process, and in rural Australia particular factors can be seen to have special significance. Factors highlighted include access to support services, networks of social support, the rural ethos and rural economic factors. In drawing implications for service delivery, the enhancement of personal coping strengths, the development of parent groups and issues of access to services are examined. |
