Cognitive, affective and social needs of carers following the cared-for person's placement in a nursing home

Titel: Cognitive, affective and social needs of carers following the cared-for person's placement in a nursing home
Auteur: Quee, Diane
Verschenen in: Australian social work
Paginering: Jaargang 48 (1995) nr. 4 pagina's 51-57
Jaar: 1995-12-01
Inhoud: It is often perceived that the needs of carers are adequately met at the time of and following the cared-for person's admission to a nursing home. Although the placement of an elderly person in a nursing home relieves the carer of the physical burden of caring, certain problems or stressors are still faced by carers. It was found in this study that many carers who had admitted the elderly cared-for person to the nursing home at Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital in Picton had cognitive (knowledge), and affective (emotional), needs at the time of and subsequent to the elderly person's institutionalisation. A small proportion of the carers also had social needs following the post-placement experience.
