  Feminism and Farm Women

Titel: Feminism and Farm Women
Auteur: Alston, Margaret
Verschenen in: Australian social work
Paginering: Jaargang 43 (1990) nr. 1 pagina's 23-27
Jaar: 1990
Inhoud: The paper focuses on the reasons for the unpopularity of feminism in the bush. When one looks at the productive and reproductive work undertaken by farm women it is clear that they are heavily involved in the 'men's work' undertaken in their enterprise. Consequently, their antagonism to feminism is difficult to understand. However, when issues of feminist theorising are addressed, it becomes clear that, in fact, feminism may have alienated many farm women. By using the concepts of patriarchy and power to illuminate farm women's lives, it is clear that they are extremely marginalised and their labour contributions are largely ignored. There is much work to be done by feminists in addressing the areas of concern for farm women.
