Inhoud: This article explores some of the problems associated with developing social work practice curriculum based upon generic1 and methods approaches. The article explores important dynamics which influenced the design of the social work practice curriculum during the years 1978 to 1982 at the School of Social Work, University of New South Wales. A critique of generic and methods approaches as a basis for curriculum design is developed. It is concluded that because of the limitations of either one of these approaches alone, they need to be used in a complementary way. This position was first asserted by Harriett Bartlett in 1970, however subsequent literature gives no indication of this having been done up until now.
