Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is an infection with a virus which selectively damages specific cells of a person's immune system, thereby making them vulnerable to severe opportunistic infections. The incidence of AIDS has been highest amongst homosexual men. This link between AIDS and a gay lifestyle can produce difficult dilemmas and issues for social work practice. This paper explores the social and psychosocial impact of the AIDS crisis for both the client and the social worker. |
