The hypothesis was that participation in group playtherapy would reduce aggressive behaviour in boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The approach adopted was to provide two groups of three children with group playtherapy for half-an-hour, once weekly, for three months. Despite the limitations of the experimental design it has given a clearer understanding of the effects of the intervention when compared to a purely anecdotal account. Other workers dealing with other groups of children, for example, children with behaviour problems, could find it beneficial to follow a similar methodology, taking into consideration the suggestions for improvements. The conclusion of this study is that group playtherapy with boys suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy would appear to significantly reduce the frequency of their aggressive behaviour. |
