Interdisciplinary child protection panels are increasingly recognised and utilised as an adjunct to decision making in identified or suspected cases of child abuse and neglect. This paper examines the philosophy and structure of the child protection panel and identifies thirteen factors critical to the viable functioning of the panel. Through the identification of the variables that contribute to the panel functioning and through analysis of their impact on the panel process, the paper presents a model for the development of child protection panels. |
