This article discusses the use of a diary in the education process with particular reference to social work. Differences between a private diary and one used for educational purposes are considered as are the student/teacher and student/student relationships, which are of central importance in the use of such a device. The problems and difficulties faced by students in using a diary as a vehicle in which to integrate reading, classroom discussion and field practice, in a subjective and scholarly manner, are examined. Issues such as confidentiality and evaluation are discussed. |
