The paper discusses the attitudes of 1484 British-Australians, 267 Greek-Australians, and 146 German-Australians regarding the integration of the aged in their kinship and the community. The paper concludes (1) that integration is favoured by the majority of the respondents, (2) that institutionalization of the aged is disapproved of and considered as a “necessary evil”, and (3) that new forms of social arrangement for the aged should be introduced in order to satisfy the growing needs of the society related to the aged. |
