This contribution to the Seminar was not so much a paper as a Picture Show of 120 slides selected to illustrate the beginnings and growth of medical social work (called hospital almoning) in Victoria. The slides were projected in fairly quick succession accompanied by an explanatory and necessarily interpretive commentary. They included a few photographs from the 1920s, and even several from the years before the First World War when medical social work was beginning to be accepted in British and American hospitals in association with the medical care of the “sick poor”. |
