The purpose of this article is to highlight the role of a hosting programme in the resettling of Indo-China refugees and migrants. Granted the traditionally cautious attitude of the Australian society towards migrants and its strong resistance to the non-European, the sudden influx of several thousand Asians, at a time when the economic climate is not conducive to an increase in the work force, has placed special demands upon the integrating capacity of the Australian community. It is, therefore, of interest to look at the hosting scheme devised by the Indo-China Refugee Association (I.C.R.A.). This scheme aims at using the support of the community to assist in the integration of the Indo-China refugees and migrants into our developing multi-cultural society. |
