To the degree that professional social workers get involved in therapeutic group work, social work as a profession must provide detailed guidelines for appropriate conduct of group therapy. It is argued that such a code should be based on actually available intervention techniques rather than on abstract principles of some ideal state of affairs. In order to use empirical evidence towards the development of such a code eighteen dimensions are suggested for pinpointing the assets and liabilities of different group intervention approaches. To illustrate the mechanics of the proposed strategy a classroom paradigm is provided. |
