Related forces are converging to induce strain in the traditional model of field instruction in the U.S.A. The role of the social worker with complex social problems and therefore some new views of the nature of the profession is behind the reconceptualization of social work practice at the Master's level. These new curriculum ideas are making impossible demands on already overcrowded traditional field work settings, hence innovation. During recent study and travel in the U.S.A., the writer explored new methods in field work experience and these are described in this paper. Comparisons with and evaluations for the Australian scene are left for the reader to make. |
