Sustainable development and governance in East Asian World Cities

Title: Sustainable development and governance in East Asian World Cities
Author: Ng, Mee Kam
Appeared in: Journal of comparative policy analysis
Paging: Volume 9 (2007) nr. 4 pages 321-335
Year: 2007-12
Contents: This paper outlines the contextual background for understanding sustainable development and governance issues in Asian world cities. It is argued that sustainability efforts are closely related to the mode of governance in a place. Given the central role of the government in directing growth and development in East Asia, we argue that the sustainability policies, rhetoric and actions in the cities under study are a function of the perception of the concept of sustainable development by the government.
