The paper seeks to identify those elements of the cultural and historical background and the present challenges that have a significant impact on the cooperation between government agencies, civil society organisations, and private firms. Based on the anecdotal and research information available in a middle-size Hungarian town (Eger), the authors give an overview of joint efforts made in the fields of policy making, fund raising, and service provision. They also explore the interrelation between locally developed cooperation techniques and partnerships formed at a national level. The paper concludes with a discussion of opportunities for a more advanced future public/private partnership. |
