Progress functions have been widely used for cost and production rate estimation. They are inadequate for many long-range planning problems because they do not explain how the progress occurs. Production functions, an econometric tool used in macroeconomic studies, offer more promise to describe production cost phenomena because they include factors of production. This paper elaborates on the use of production functions in manufacturing shops. Formulations of some long-range planning problems using production functions are described. |
