This article considers the problem of choosing the assortment of modular equipment sizes to manufacture in order to optimally supply the needs of a population of customers. Average annual cost equations are developed by modeling the population of customer growth rates by a frequency distribution and solving deterministic inventory problems with order quantities constrained to be integer multiples of the module sizes. Solution procedures and numerical examples are presented for the manufacture of only one module size and general n-size cases. |
