  Hand Size and Assembly Performance

Title: Hand Size and Assembly Performance
Author: Salvendy, Gavriel
Appeared in: IIE transactions
Paging: Volume 3 (1971) nr. 1 pages 32-36
Year: 1971-03-01
Contents: Contrary to present belief, consideration should be given to anthropometric variables in the selection, placement, and guidance of personnel. On analysis, twelve anthropometric data had product moment multiple correlation coefficients of 0.31 with the performance on the Purdue Peg-board (R.H.), (27) 0.32 with the one-hole test (21,22) and 0.56 (p<.001) with production indices of 181 female industrial subjects. This indicates that one-third of the variables predicting production performances are accounted for by some selected anthropometric variables; and that long thick fingers are related to high productivity.
