The specific real world problem of concern is the inventory control of repair parts for new weapon systems. The initial forecast of demand is based on engineering estimates. This forecast is updated as demand experience accrues. An algorithm implementing a dynamic programming formulation is developed and used as a research tool to obtain insights into how the opportunity to improve the demand forecast impacts the optimum inventory control parameters. |
