This paper treats the formulation and algorithmic solution of a class of dynamical system models for integrated production, inventory, and R&D planning. Minimization of the cost of labor, capital, and R&D engineering is investigated for a Leontief type input-output model. The solution technique is based on a variable metric implementation of gradient descent. Numerical results include a sensitivity analysis of the cost structures. The results of the research demonstrate that optimal control can provide a useful modeling and solution technique for production planning. |
