An experiment is described in which the observational methods of Berne's Transactional Analysis are investigated to see if they can be used to create profiles of personnel involved in service activities. It is shown that: i.) Trained observers can create profiles reliably; ii.) very short observation periods, in some cases of the order of a minute or less, are sufficient allowing the principles of Work Sampling to be applied; and iii.) exposure to TA concepts can alter the measured behavior of a subject. Applications to the areas of personnel selection, training, and placement test validation are pointed out. |
