Four high-flow rate impactor stages of a mobile, large-particle sampling system developed at the University of Florida have been calibrated by two independent laboratories. In addition to determining the particle collection efficiency characteristics of these single-stage, rectangular impactors, particle losses to the impactor walls were also quantified. Calibrated values of the impactors' Dp50 cutpoints by the two laboratories were found to agree within a few percent but differed significantly from those predicted by standard impactor theory. A dramatic difference between the large-particle collection characteristics of greased and glass-fiber filter impaction substrates was observed. |
