Physical treatment processes such as filtration, incineration, and UV radiation are more commonly employed than chemical treatment in the decontamination of air in the biotechnology industry that generates microbial aerosols. Depth filters and membrane filters are used in the decontamination of air streams. Application of electric heaters or gas- and oil-fired incinerators for the decontamination of air streams depends on the air flow rates. UV radiation is generally applied to air retained in a containment unit. Application of chemical treatment technologies for contaminated gas streams is very limited. |
