The council for school performance 1 1 Dr. Gary Henry and his staff at the Council for School Performance won the American Evaluation Association Award for Outstanding Evaluation in 1998 for his work on developing a performance measurement system for education in the state of Georgia. Dr. Henry is the director for the Council for School Performance, which is part of the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University. He and his staff also have been officially commended by the Georgia state legislature for the “solid data collected and organized by the Council for School Performance [that] allow parents, educators, community leaders, and policy makers to understand how our schools and other educational institutions are performing and initiate action for improvement.” Across the country, states are developing standards and performance measures to inform stakeholders about education. These efforts vary greatly in quality and approach. This interview will focus on how Dr. Henry and his staff developed the performance measurement system for the state of Georgia.
