Procrustes’ recipe 1 1 In Greek mythology, Procrustes was the name of a robber of Attica (he was said to live on the way between Megara and Athens) who was famous for the way he “treated” his victims. He was indeed said to attack travellers, rob them, and then attach them to one of his two beds: a short one and a long one. But not all his victims would exactly fit the size of his two beds. So, he would either stretch their limbs or amputate them. Then, after the mutilation, he would kill the unfortunate travellers. Later, Theseus killed the notorious Procrustes by submitting him to that same torture. : hedging and positivism |
