EDITORIAL 1 1 I would like to pay tribute to my father, Tom Saxby, who died in January 2002. In the early 1950’s he worked for J. Lyons at Cadby Hall in London and was witness to one of the first commercial uses of computers — LEO 1 — installed for use by that Company. His essay on the impact of automation on office employment in the next decade — first written in 1961 was featured, with further comment from him, in the 50th issue of CLSR published in July 1993 ([1993] 9 CLSR 146). I was pleased that, just recently, he was able to celebrate with us the publication of the 100th issue of CLSR under my editorship. |
