The AVID Trial 1 1 Note Added in Proof: Since submission of our manuscript, preliminary results from AVID were announced. The results showed that patients with a previous history of resuscitated sudden death or symptomatic sustained VT, had 38% lower mortality at 1 year, which remained 25% to 30% lower at 2 and 3 years compared with antiarrhythmic drug therapy (amiodarone). Details on this study design and results are being prepared for publication. They do not answer our concerns related to randomized trials or decisions about reembursement based on costs alone. : Evidence Based or Randomized Control Trials—Is the AVID Study Too Late? |
