The art of mixing with an admixture of art: viewing creativity through P. V. Danckwerts's early work 1 Note to the Reader: The fact that someone may do work that may be regarded as creative does not mean that one should be aware of the process of creativity itself. I have been, however, seriously interested in visual arts, and to a lesser extent, in general aspects of creative processes, for far longer than I have been doing chemical engineering. To paraphrase PVD, the title of this presentation is somewhat pretentious, but a title was needed, and I hope that readers will find the ideas presented thought-provoking. The research examples are from my own work; quite certainly they are not the most transparent in illustrating points but are cases whose historical genesis I am most familiar with. The scope of the comparisons between Art/Science is limited in the sense that the majority of the parallels presented focus in the time-frame 1890–1950. In any case I appreciate the opportunity to air my views here. 1
