The Unified File System was developed to facilitate data transfer from one system to another and to help secure the description of the file, find the data needed and re-use the data. Three basic facts about the system are the following. Firstly, the system runs in the mainframe environment, but we have plans to build a similar system that would run in the PC-Network environment. Secondly, the metadata is stored in two places: in the metadata system and at the beginning of each file. Thirdly, the structure of a Unified File is such that it is possible to store basic data or aggregated data (microdata or macrodata) in the system. |
