The paper presents study of isolated hybridpower systems using a proportional controller or aregulator with a static synchronous compensator(STATCOM) for reactive power control havingdistributed random signal disturbance to maintainconstant voltage at the generator terminals. The nonconventionalenergy sources such as wind etc. whichare intermittent in nature use induction generator aselectro-mechanical device for conversion ofmechanical to electrical energy. But reactive power isrequired for the operation of the induction generatorin addition to the reactive power required by the load.The synchronous generator operating from theconventional device may not be able to provide thereactive power under normal operating conditions.Therefore, another source having fast response forreactive power supply is required to fulfill this demand.In this paper, the performance of a STATCOM isshown at variable slip mode of the induction generatorby considering wind-diesel hybrid power systems as anexample. The used wind-diesel power systems aresingle-wind single-diesel system, and multiple- windsingle diesel (Two wind/ single diesel) system. |
