In this present study, antifreeze glycoproteins (AFGPs) were isolated from the serum of tortoise (Testudo greaca) , and their leakages from liposomes in the presence of various protectants were estimated. In addition, effect of AFGPs on permeability coefficients (cm/s) of carboxy fluorescein at different temperatures from various liposomes were calculated. AFGPs leakage from liposomes in the presence of AFP type I, phospholipase A2 (1 mg ml‾1), ovotransferrin (1 mg ml‾1), ovomucoid (1 mg ml‾1), bovine lactotransferrin (1 mg ml‾1), glycerol (0.5 M), N-acetyl galactose amine (1 mg ml‾1), bovine serum albumin (1 mg ml‾1), galactose (1 mg ml‾1), trehalose (1 mg ml‾1), alanine (1 mg ml‾1) and threonine (1 mg ml‾1) as 73, 100, 84, 72, 78, 65, 63, 45, 43, 40, 41 and 60% , respectively. The leakage of AFGPs out of liposomes in the absence of any protectants was 52%. The permeability coefficient (cm/s) of control and AFGPs was 98 and 28%, respectively, in liposome dielaidoyl phosphatidyl choline (DEPC). The permeability coefficient (cm/s) of control and AFGP in dimyristil phosphatidyl choline (DPMC) liposome was 100 and zero percent, respectively. The permeability coefficient (cm/s) control and AFGP in dipalmitoyl choline (DPPC) liposome was determined as 100 and 41%, respectively.
