In order to know the richness, abundance and local uses of the epiphyte plants in the northern part of the State ofVeracruz, México, we sample specimens from Bromeliaceae, Cactaceae and Orchidaceae families in two areasfrom November 2005 to July 2006. The first area was a natural protected area with tropical deciduous forest andthe second one was a farming area at the municipality of Pánuco. Thirteen samples were carried out in 20 m X20 m squares which were located at random in the two areas. The taxonomic identity of species was carried outand the indexes of diversity of Margalef, Shannon-Wiener and Simpson were calculated. The result obtainedwas, a registry of 1,752 epiphytic plants belonging to three different families, five genus and ten species; six ofthem from the Bromeliaceae family. All of them from the genus Tillandsia L. in both areas. The two sites hadsimilar diversity index. The main use of epiphytic plants was ornamental and only one was edible (Hylocereusundatus). |
