Contents: In the period 1997-1999 vegetable areas in Croatia were reduced by 8.2% and potatoes by 17.3% compared to the pre-war period. Slavonia and Baranya region is known for 16.8% of potatoes domestic production. Total production costs of mercantile potatoes on a farm of Vukovar region amount to HRK 26,828.66 /ha of 8which 11,750.00 accounts for seed consumption, 4796.70 machinery work, 4371.38 human labour, 1334.47 fertilizers, 1352.94 manure and 1907.35 chemical agents. Two hundred and ninety nine human labour hours and 61.9 machinery work hours were consumed per hectare. A profit of HRK 5671.34/ha was obtained by the yield of 25 t/ha. The work productivity was 83.6 kg/hour and profitability 21.14%. Amount of HRK 26,342.78/ha was consumed at a production of 23,834 kg/ha on a farm in Brodsko-Posavian county. The work productivity was 93.1 kg/hr. with 10.8 hr/t whereas profitability amounted to 17.52%. Early potatoes growing is profitable on the insured market. A profit of HRK 7.761.00/ha was attained from 8.000 kg/ha or HRK 32.02 per HRK100 invested in production.
