Twenty different sites at Kenana Estate of Sudan were examined for their rhisosphere fungal mycoflora. A modified soil-dilution plate method was used for isolating the fungi. Twenty three different species in sixteen genera and six sterile fungal taxa were reported. Of these species twenty five were Hyphomycetes, three were Zygomycetes and one belongs to the order Sphaeriales. The richest taxa in abundance were <I>Aspergillus</I> (two species),<I> Penicillium</I> (one species), <I>Alternaria</I> (one species), <I>Rhizopus</I> (one species), <I>Curvularia</I> (one species) and <I>Fusarium</I> (one species). All of the reported species were new records to the area and thirteen are new records to the flora of Sudan. Fungal activities increased with plant age. When near crop maturity the number of colonies declined. The results of rhisosphere fungal mycoflora in different sites were slightly varying and the number and type of fungal colonies in some areas were nearly the same. |
