The umbuzeiro is an anacardiácea with enormous socio-economic potential for the Brazilian Northeast. The main way of spreading this species is by seeds, but they have slow germination and uniformity. The study was conducted in a greenhouse, to evaluate the methods for overcoming seed dormancy in umbuzeiro and their morphological characteristics. The experimental design was completely randomized to five treatments: (T1) in the absence of cut seed, (T2) 1 cut in the seed (T3) 2 cuts in the seed, (T4) 3 cuts in the seed and (T5) 4 slices in the seed, with four replications, each experimental unit consists of 20 seeds. It was determined the length and diameter of 60 Cores, divided into four replications. They also determined the number of locules per core. Data of germination were subjected to logistic regression for binomial data, applying the chi-square. It was for the mean values of treatments, the highest percentage of seedlings emerged was in the range 30 to 45 days after sowing, as the cumulative percentage of 90% was achieved at 120 days after germination. The germination of seeds of umbuzeiro began 15 days after sowing.Key-words: Spondias, dormancy, biometric.
