The consecutive condensation, dehydration and hydrogenation of acetone were studied in atrickle bed reactor. Purolite CT 275, a commercial cation exchange resin was used as a supportfor catalyst. The bifunctional catalysts based on ion-exchangers were prepared by the combinedprocedure of deposing-reduction of the active metal on the surface of ion-exchanger granules, using hydrogen as spraying gas. The operating parameters of the reaction system were pressure30 atm, temperature of catalytic bed from 105 to 130°C, hourly space velocity of acetone:variable, from 0.4 to 2.4 h-1, hydrogen/acetone molar ratio: variable, from 2 to 15, acetoneconversions varying from 24 to 34 % and the methyl-isobutyl-ketone (MIBK) yield variedbetween 22 and 29%. The results indicated that the activity of metallic centers is considerablyefficient even at high values of HSV, taking into account that mesityl oxide (MO) was notidentified in the reaction product over the whole range of HSV checked in the test series.
