The binding of violamycin BI to single stranded nucleic acids is a cooperative processleading to the formation of the stacked dye molecules attached at the polyanion surface. Weapplied Schwarz treatment to determine the binding parameters: the equilibrium constant of thestacked complex formation Kst and of the nucleation process Knuc respectively, g the number ofbinding sites per monomeric unit of the polyanion and q the cooperativity coefficient. The resultsobtained permitted us to suggest a binding mechanism involving interactions which arediscussed in details. |
