Science and Child Custody Evaluations: What Qualifies as “Scientific”?

Title: Science and Child Custody Evaluations: What Qualifies as “Scientific”?
Author: Fridhandler, Bram
Appeared in: Journal of child custody
Paging: Volume 5 (2008) nr. 3-4 pages 256-275
Year: 2008-12-15
Contents: In response to statements that child custody evaluations violate the accepted definition of science in psychology and are therefore unethical in their current form, the evolving definition of science in psychology and the position of the American Psychological Association on evidence-based practice are reviewed. This literature supports those in the child custody evaluation literature who advocate the use of disciplined clinical judgment to integrate case observation, empirical research, and clinical experience in order to provide the courts with responsible answers to the questions they pose.
