The computer software industry has many customers who refuse to pay for the product they use. The cus-tomer may justify this refusal by claiming that the software is not performing as prom-ised. At other times, the customer may sim-ply choose not to pay or is financially unable to do so. When the customer is a major corporation (with a large, highly paid legal department) and the software devel-oper is a start-up company with limited financial resources, legal action may prove financially impossible. Even if the lawsuit eventually proves successful, the small developer may not be financially able to wait several years to collect. |
