This article suggests a fresh approach to the study of security as a social science through an empirical exploration of the pivotal figure of the security director. The recruitment, hiring, status, and authority are explored so as to expose the influences governing the process and their impact on the operational aspects of this position. The experiences of those serving or having served as security directors is heavily drawn on so as to provide a view approximating to the realities of the difficulties under which many labor and the effects these have on the overall task of providing security as herein defined. |
