A new investigation of the apatite-rich iron ores in the northern part of the Kiruna district has been made. In connection with this the surronding magnetic anomalies have been examined. The work included geophysical measurements, diamond drilling, trenching, and new geological mapping. Further to the previous knowledge of the geology of the area the following have been noted. New maps have been made to illustrate the text. The revision of the data is in progress. A Conglomerate bed in the Kiruna greenstone. Kiruna greenstone and quartz-bearing porphyry lying to the east of the Vakko sandstone. Faulted quartz-bearing porphyry at Haukijarvi. A deep-seated, apatite-rich hematite-rich hematite-magnetite orebody (Lappmalmen) in the “Lower Hauki complex”. |
