Efflorescence salts on weathered building stone in Sweden

Title: Efflorescence salts on weathered building stone in Sweden
Author: Nord, Anders G.
Appeared in: GFF
Paging: Volume 114 (1992) nr. 4 pages 423-429
Year: 1992-12-10
Contents: Various types of salt efflorescence have been observed on building stone in Sweden. Their origin may be air pollution, ground-water penetration, the stone itself, microorganisms, etc. The most frequently occurring salts are sulphates like gypsum and thenardite. Carbonates are also rather common, while chlorides and mitrates are less usual, and oxalates are rare. Tables of efflorescence salts so far identified on building stone are given. Typical morphologies are illustrated by SEM photographs.
